I see a lot people talking about Joomla 1.5 and wondering when it will be ready or stable. Not yet! As of January the 8th of 2008 it is still 1.5 RC4 which is really close and the stable version is rumoured to be coming out in a few days, perhaps a few weeks. But, it really doesn't matter if you are concerned about running a production type of site. By that I mean a website that needs to do business. Joomla 1.5 Stable should still be given some time to be used by the larger community before using it for a business site. If your site isn't to serious and you like to mess around with new software then you will likely have fun. I just read a post by 'Beat' over at the Joomlapolis Forum (The makers of Community Builder). This article is very outdated now July 8th 2009. It was written a year and a half ago. Joomla is now at version 1.5.12 and yesterday I installed an Alpha version of Joomla 1.6. It installed just fine but I did have some other issue's. It was a quick peak inside and then I just un-installed it to wait a while yet! Most of the extensions now at the Joomla extension directory are for version 1.5x and most don't need the Legacy plugin anymore. Looks like the commercial extension's have been moved out this July 2009. I don't get into the politics to much but its about the license and the opensource idea in general. |
