Now that Virtuemart has put out a new stabel 1.10 release and Joomla has a new 1.53 version,  this has all happened recently within a few months of each other, it is important make sure you get up-to-date. Virtuemart just put out the latest stable version this April 2008 so it is not likely Larix has the latest version of Virtuemart intergated yet. This article about JA Larix is fairly old now. I believe you may find a more up to date template at Joomlart that will have Virtuemart ready to go in a Joomla quick start. I am sure I saw one that was very similar to Larix.
