Chasing Spam Around
Do you have time to chase spam?
Do you have the time to chase spam around? You will need to enjoy the hunt because it will become a never ending full time job. You will never be able to remove your e-mail address from a true career spammer.

I have one e-mail address I turned off for two years and the spam started the second I turned it back on. What this means is they (spam senders) have still been sending spam to that e-mail of mine for the two years it was turned off!

In some cases the bounced e-mails may have been sent to someone who had no idea their e-mail was being used as a false return address. Personally, I feel I have wasted valuable time trying to slow it down. Now I don't waste anytime on it, I just delete it and carry on with my business. You should not take it personally when you read some nasty spam e-mail about a product or service they are selling. They don't know you at all, you are just another harvested e-mail address.

There are thousands of sites that are built around and about chasing spam. Some sites that hunt spam may even make a few dollars on traffic to their sites and good for them. You would have to be either making some money from the chase or be very passionate about the crusade. My time is to limited and valuable  to spend on chasing spam. I'll leave that job to large corporations and software makers that make millions of dollars everyday 'fighting' spam.  I would rather spend my time helping people get their website functioning to meet their needs.

How to Newsletters
Articles on Spam

Why would anyone as passionate about Joomla as I am recommend AWeber? Am I doing it simply to try and make an affiliate sale? No, actually I am doing it because most newbies will not be able to handle a Newsletter component. Is that their fault? No, in my experience with Joomla Newsletter components I have found most to be very good.

However, I also receive more than one copy from some of them and one I belong to sends 4 e-mails with the same content to the same e-mail address every time they send the Newsletter out. Whether you are a newbie or an advanced user of Joomla you don't have time to make any mistakes when it comes to sending e-mail. Your site could be down and out right after the first false spam complaint.

Worst case scenario is your hosting provider or IP address gets Black listed. The Black listing may have been caused by someone else who you share your IP with or hosting.  If you use AWeber's auto-responder service for you e-mailing you can rest assured that they will do everything possible to make sure your e-mail gets to your subscribers, in a legal manner using proper opt-in and out methods.

We all know what spam is, that is when you get e-mail(s) that you didn't ask for trying to sell you something or worse, trying to show you things that you do not wish to see!  AWeber is the opposite of spam and much more than just an autoresponder. AWeber's strongest selling points are their commitment to educating small businesses on the ins and outs of setting up an effective email campaign, and enhancing that campaign over time.

Early this year they introduced Live Webinars, where business owners can sit in on discussions and demonstrations of how to use email marketing to grow their business. At the end of most webinars, their Education Team fields questions from attendees.

You can see their current Live Webinar lineup

The response to these has been great - but the attendees have asked for even more! So, they answered the call and expanded their webinar series, starting with two new focused, topical webinars.

Attendees learn how to:

  • Create and Send Effective Email Newsletters
  • Get More Subscribers With Optimized Opt-In Forms

These are great *free* learning opportunities for you - people come to AWeber every day looking to start an email newsletter, or build a list of opt-in subscribers, but don't know the options they have, or what mistakes to avoid.

The webinars aim to better prepare you and your referrals to build successful email marketing campaigns, and stay with you for the long haul -- which means more recurring commissions for you -- while AWeber does the work!

Getting traffic but no sales?

Join a free web conference on turning one-time visitors into subscribers who you can then turn into customers!

Perhaps the most important reason for maintaining your list with Aweber is the fact that you can still communicate with your friends, family or business contacts even when your site or hosting moves or goes off-line. With an Aweber account you can contact your customers and let them know what's happening.

Chasing Spam around will suck the life out you
Articles on Spam

With spam on the rise it is a major job trying to slow it down. It will suck the life out of you if you let it. I try blocking the odd IP address but it never really helps. The spam is being bounced of servers with open relays or servers infected with viruses. There are servers all over the world that are set up to relay e-mail which means the spammer can easily change direction many times a day.

I would suggest it is easier to just change your email address. Never use webmaster@ or info@, the spam will always find its way to you using either one of these. If you own your domain or perhaps dozens of domains your information may very well get harvested from a register of domains. This is why so many people are using services that hide their personal information from robots.

To late for me, I had dozens of email addresses of mine harvested years ago from a few of my web sites. I can confirm that once your address is harvested it may also be put on CD, like mine were.

The spam to these addresses has never stopped for many years now. It doesn't matter if I turn the account off for a year or two. As soon as I turn it back on the spam starts again. This is why they use false return addresses, they never see a bounce or care if you wanted off. The only real solution to stopping spam, once your address has been harvested, is to change your e-mail address.
