Are Content Management Systems Really Easy?

The truth is content management systems do give the end user the ability to change content on their own web site. It is also true that they are not all that easy for everyone. Even doing daily changes will depend on your knowledge and how much you are willing to learn. Once a sites webmaster has taken the time needed to learn how to operate their CMS it is not likely they will be able to edit PHP files or do upgrades to the software systems they are using. Again this will depend on this persons knowledge or willingness to spend the time required to learn the system.

Just because you are given an editor that is similiar to using 'Word' does not mean there isn't a learning curve. It will always depend on the individuals knowledge or ability to use an editor. You may have no interest in learning the 'System' , which would be an advantage to you. Many people waste there time messing around with web site building when they should be building their Business or marketing their products.

I use and promote the use of Joomla because it, in my opinion, gives the end user or owner of a web site the best chance of running most daily functions themself.  There may be costs involved due to upgrades and bug fixes. There may be opensource components (no charge) but there are also many paid components for Joomla and other content management systems. It depends on your needs and in some cases paid components have better code but, not always.

Personally, I can appreciate the work that goes into coding some components and I do not mind paying or donating to the programmer.  Opensource software is free but it is important to remember that you may have to pay someone to install it, upgrade it, add to it or teach you how to use it. And of course, there are hosting costs and databases to back-up.
