Extension Blog

Keeping up with all the new extensions for the Joomla content management system is a full time job. This is a task that I work on daily and usually spend at least 2 hours a day studying and testing components. Having installed hundreds of Joomla component's, Module's, Plugin's and Mambot's. I have learned how to deal with many issues that arise during a normal installation of a particlular extension or plugin.

With over 2800 extensions now available for Joomla, it is very time consumming keeping up with the latest components and updates. My experience and knowledge of dozens of extensions may save you time and money getting your project started. Tiny little issues during installation can cause you many hours of looking for a solution. There are solutions that in some cases can not be found if you do not purchase the component's documentation. Baratta Design does spend money on documentation and in many cases the payment is simply to help out the programmer or code writer.

During an average day of our lives there are Ads everywhere, some are good products and some are less than what they claim. It is no different with Joomla extensions. Most are amazing and a few are not worth the headache they may cause. Beta doesn't always mean it will break and Stable doesn't always mean it will work. Paying for an extension does not mean it will be better than an opensource product.

This is just the general nature of software. Extensions will no doubt need upgrading or fixing at some point in time. If you are more interested in building your Internet business, club or personal website, you should use the 'Contact' form here at Baratta Design and we can discuss your project.

You are NOT committing to any contract or service agreement by using the Contact form.

A reasonable amount of time is included in discussing your project. If it becomes clear that you are not sure what your needs are or how to accomplish them, consulting fee's will likely be needed. You would always be quoted the cost first and then decide if you want to continue.

I (Daryl Baratta) provide a very one on one type of personal service with easy access to communicate with me. I only speak English and clients can talk to me on the phone. I do not claim to know it " All " , there are new extensions and high tech templates coming out daily.

Affiliate software for JoomlaiDev Affiliate for Joomla is now available as an addon module to any version of iDevAffiliate 5 . Sales and support for this module is provided solely by iDevDirect.  There are no additional components or modules that need to be purchased from other websites.

The Joomla Module can be purchased separately and added to your current installation of iDevAffiliate or you can add the Joomla Module to your order at the time of your iDevAffiliate purchase.

Once you have a basic installation of iDevAffiliate 5 , the Joomla module will then be installed as a component in your Joomla admin backend office. This package  is installed just like any other Joomla component.

This module will automatically create an affiliate account for anyone registering on your main website.  It also has full synchronization built-in so when changes are made to accounts on the Joomla side, the database is automatically updated on the affiliate side. Works with Community Builder and Virtuemart.

Why iDev?

Over the last 12 years I have joined many affiliate programs. Since I started using Joomla I have joined some affiliate programs that relate to the content management system.

The affiliate programs I joined that use iDev have all recorded sales and sent me a commission, the ones I joined that don't use iDev affiliate software or use free affiliate software have either paid nothing or have issues with tracking my affiliate link. iDev tracks clicks using several methods to insure that your affiliate is credited correctly.

JoomLeague not Leagueman
Joomla Extensions

Joomleague Sports Component for JoomlaCareful not to confuse JoomLeague with the Leagueman component. Big difference, Leagueman needs PHP 5 to work with your Joomla. JoomLeague works with PHP 4. JoomLeague integrates into Joomla 1.0.x * and is kind of sport neutral. JoomLeague can handle a few kinds of sports e.g., Baseball, Hockey, Football, Hand Ball etc. Extensive results systems with many modules.

Who's your favorite team playing next? This can be viewed easily and well displayed with the "Next Match Module". The module shows you the next match of your favorite team selected in JoomLeague's configuration. Besides the next opponent and the next match date you can choose to include the club logo in the module, additionally the display of a link to the season statistics is possible.

The "Team Players Module" displays all players of a team at a glance. Clearly organised in completely arbitrary player positions all the players of the designated team are shown. Every entry is linked to the the player profile where you are presented further details about the player (e.g. photo, personal data etc.). In contrast to the "Next Match Module" you can set any team here. JoomLeague

Subscription Component for Joomla
Joomla Extensions
Written by Daryl Baratta
Saturday, 14 July 2007

How do you get a paid subscription component for Joomla? There are a few solutions coming for Joomla and AEC Paid Subscription Component is leading the small group of contenders. If you have come to the conclusion that there really isn't a paid subscriber solution for Joomla you would have been right if you were looking months ago. As of mid July 2007 there is a subscription component that will allow you to have paid subscribers.

AEC does work and will show subscriptions first and then the user can register. Once the registration  process is completed your subscriber is forwared to Pay Pal or the processor you have applied. Baratta Design has installed several AEC components at various sites.  It can be a challenge at times but in the end it was only my mistakes that caused my headache!

If your an average site administrator looking for a paid subscription component solution you currently do not have many choices. Most of us know there are paid subscription component's that do work, because we have used them and paid for products and services at a Joomla powered website. Most were custom made subscription components and not available to us end users.

The makers of Community Builder and the code guy 'Beat' have been working on one but,  like so many Joomla component makers they are very busy making opensource components for us. Although CB has been testing the paid subscription component at their site for a year now they have still not released anything for the paying subscribers to test or use.

The last 'guess' at the release date from CB was months ago in March 2007 and there have been a few updates at CB from Beat, who is a very busy guy. Many excited members have replied to the blog and Beat has replied to them for several month after his last 'guess date'. We hope he is doing well and still able to work on this subscription component.

Don't forget the old fashion way, just put a Pay Pal button on your site, you can use a button in a module or content item. The person links off to Pay Pal and pays for their subscription. Sure its a bit on the manual side but, for most of us it will be good enough. If a customer wants to pay for my services I'll do it manually!  No problem! and thank you very much!

Turn JCE Editor OFF - NO
Joomla Extensions
Written by Daryl Baratta
Saturday, 30 June 2007
While reading about an Amazon plugin to add affiliate links into a Joomla content items. Most reviewers at the Joomla extensions forum seemed to be happy with the Amazon plugin but not the JCE editor.

The complaint that was mentioned by almost all the reviewers was that they had to turn JCE editor OFF in order to get the Amazon plugin bot code to work in a content item. They either had to turn the JCE editor off or they had to change from WYSIWYG mode to no editor to enter the bot code.
